Best Guitar Websites
2024/25

These are the resources I discovered in my 15 years of playing guitar, most of them don't require any subscription. A word of caution: don't try to 'utilize them all' at once rather look for the ones you need. This first section is a compilation of educational Resources.

The granddaddy of all guitar learning websites on the internet, JustinGuitar helped me get started back in 2010 when there wasn't any exposure around. If I had to recommend just one, this would be it.

2

Known for his friendly and engaging teaching style, Marty has become one of the most recognized guitar instructors on YouTube. It's hard to think of a track he hasn't covered. I have personally learned a lot of songs from him.

3

More on the theoretical side Fretjam used to be my quick alternative — I utilized it after my very initial learning period (a year or two after starting).  It’s particularly useful for players looking to improve their understanding of music theory.

4

I first got to know about him through his YouTube channel — he's got one for the songs and another for guitar theory. Learning intermediate and advanced songs requires a distinct approach (compared to beginner stuff) and he seems to nail it.

5

Moving onto paid options now — although Guitar Tricks offers 24 free lessons to get the hang of their platform, the majority of lessons are premium only. Its "Core Learning System" starts with the basics and progresses in a structured manner, perfect for newcomers.

6

TrueFire provides masterclasses by world-class guitarists, covering intermediate and advanced topics such as improvisation, lead guitar techniques, and genre-specific lessons (e.g., jazz, blues, rock). It’s ideal for players looking to move to the next level.

Tabs & Chords

Tabs & Chords

One of the largest and most popular guitar tab directories, Ultimate Guitar provides thousands of guitar tabs and chords for songs across all genres. It also features community-created tabs and tutorials for players of all skill levels. The rating and versions feature is quite helpful and trustworthy.

2

Chordify provides instant access to the chords of any song. It automatically converts YouTube videos or MP3 files into easy-to-read chord progressions, making it a helpful tool for learning songs quickly. More useful for people trying to accompany vocals with chords.

3

With a vast library of songs, tabs, and chords, Acousterr makes it easy for players to learn their favorite tunes. Their interactive tools allow users to adjust the tempo and key of songs, ensuring a customized practice experience.

4

A good fit for kids as the name suggests, Andrew has put together well-known rhymes and tunes in an easy-to-follow structure. Unfortunately, his website seems to be not working anymore, I have linked to his YouTube.

Music Theory

Music Theory

Their approach is unique — they use hand-drawn diagrams and animations to explain everything from the basics of intervals to deep dives into harmony. I would place them in a somewhat advanced category, maybe more suitable for intermediate players.

2

Super beginner-friendly and easy to navigate with a plethora of categories available — Guitar Habits is written in a laid-back, conversational tone, which I appreciate. The lessons cover everything from simple chord shapes to more advanced melodic concepts, making it a great resource.

3

Although not strictly guitar-centric, My Music Theory is a highly structured yet free resource for music theory. The stand out feature — they offer theory lessons associated with Trinity and ABRSM exams.

4

Almost three decades old, Teoria is the Keith Richards of music theory websites on the internet. They’ve got exercises on everything from interval training to chord construction, and I find their ear training sections particularly valuable.

5

Musictheory.net offers interactive lessons, exercises, and even calculators for scales, intervals, and chords. I love how simple and straightforward everything is, especially when you're diving into something as potentially overwhelming as theory.

Musicianship

Rick Beato's channel goes beyond just guitar—it's a deep dive into all things music. Whether he’s breaking down iconic songs, sharing theory tips, or explaining production techniques, Rick helps guitarists think more holistically about music creation.

2

Super beginner-friendly and easy to navigate with a plethora of categories available — Guitar Habits is written in a laid-back, conversational tone, which I appreciate. The lessons cover everything from simple chord shapes to more advanced melodic concepts, making it a great resource.

3

One of the best ways to refine your skills and prepare for a performance is by practicing with high-quality backing tracks, and Tom Bailey’s YouTube channel delivers exactly that. From blues to rock to jazz, his backing tracks offer endless possibilities to jam along and develop your improvisational chops.

4

In their own words, " Inside the Music rips back the curtain, plunging you into the raw, uncensored world of music's legends. Exclusive footage. Unflinching truths. Groundbreaking music documentaries. This is the ultimate behind-the-scenes look at the music that changed your life".

Find Musicians

Vampr is a popular networking app designed specifically for musicians. It allows artists to connect with other musicians, producers, and industry professionals. You can swipe through profiles to find collaborators based on genre, skill level, and location, making it a great tool for finding new bandmates or creative partners.

2

Advanced search operators can help you discover musicians if you're smart with your search query. This works for Google and other search engines as well, infact some of these are even usable on Reddit. For instance, try searching for site:instagram.com vocalist "new delhi"

3

Tuning your guitar is the first and most important step to ensure a great sound. Guitar Tuna is one of the most widely-used apps for this purpose. It’s user-friendly, though it does have an occasional pop-up for premium subscriptions (which can be easily dismissed).

2

Musicca is a fantastic online resource that offers interactive training, including a drum machine, ear training, and various music theory exercises. It’s particularly helpful for beginners looking to get familiar with rhythms and notes, featured here for it's drum machine.

Having a reliable metronome on your computer is crucial for consistent practice, especially when offline. TempoPerfect by NCH offers a free, accurate metronome to help develop your sense of rhythm. NCH also provides additional software for recording, making it a versatile option for practice and self-assessment.

4

For those who are willing to invest, the Soundbrenner Metronome Watch is a revolutionary tool for mastering timekeeping. It gives a tactile pulse, allowing you to feel the beat rather than hear it, which can be less intrusive during practice. It’s particularly useful in band settings where audible metronomes might get drowned out.

5

Audacity is an open-source audio recording software perfect for guitarists who want to record their practice sessions or even produce music at home. With a user-friendly interface and professional-level capabilities, it’s a powerful tool for home recording setups, allowing you to layer tracks, edit recordings, and improve your playing by analyzing recordings.

6

Capo is a fantastic app for learning songs by ear. It allows you to slow down songs and loop difficult sections while maintaining pitch, making it much easier to break down tricky riffs, solos, or chord progressions. The app also includes chord detection, which can help when figuring out how to play your favorite tracks. I think it's IOS only at the moment.

This is a personal favorite when it comes to building technique. Guitar Aerobics is a year-long program that focuses on a specific exercise for every day of the week. It covers everything from alternate picking to sweep picking and string skipping. The cool part? You can fit it into your daily practice routine without too much hassle.

2

Offers fewer options than Baajao but delivery is usually faster. More than enough variety for beginners and often customer reviews seem legit.

3

Very limited inventory but open-box delivery is probably a good thing for musicians to make sure equipment isn't damaged by any chance, swift delivery.
